19 days to go.

I love how the number is shrinking.  I also love the fact I have worked my last weekend day for at least a month.  B. was up at the Academy this past Saturday driving the new CHP Ford Explorers.  He said they had a lot of fun driving the vehicles like they stole them.  It will take several years before they get their hands on these Ford Explorers as the Crown Victorias will be passed down.

I had to work another Sunday opposite B.'s Saturday.  We had dinner as a family on Saturday night and all ended up sleeping fairly early.  I dreaded waking up at 6:15am on Sunday.  I had to look on the bright side.  I have nine more works days until I'm off for ten straight.  I'll be off beginning the Monday of graduation week and won't be returning to work until March 24th.  I haven't had that much time off since my maternity leave with #2.

We missed out on having dinner with B.'s roommates and girlfriends last Wednesday.  B. wasn't feeling well and didn't want us to drive all the way there.  We did meet him for dinner on Friday.  People are not kidding about the traffic on Friday.  I hit the freeway by 3:00 pm and it still took nearly three hours to get to West Sacramento.  I was so tired and hungry by the time we got there, we ended up eating at the Panda Express across the street from the Academy.  It wasn't exactly what I had in mind for Friday night dinner, but it worked.  There isn't much else to report for right now.

Once again, sending my thoughts and prayers to the Law and Gonzalez families.   Rest in Paradise.

  1. Hi CHP Cadet Wife! I became a CHP Cadet wife two weeks ago. My husband begins his training on April 14th. We have a 7 month old baby girl and I know the coming months are going to bring challenges as we live 7+ hours from Sacramento. I am incredibly grateful to you for documenting your experience so far, and I want you to know that you have helped me better understand what I can expect. The "unknown" is a dark and scary place, and your blog and blogs like yours are a flashlight to all of us searching for...something to help get us through the next 27 weeks.

    1. Cimizi: Congratulations to you and your husband on your baby girl and the CHP. I'm glad this blog has been helpful. At first, it was more for me to document what was going on at home. Although their cell phones are turned off during the day, send pictures of your daughter to him. It totally brightens their day. The first four weeks are the hardest. You start to get into a routine without him there. I can't tell you how fast the weeks go by. 27 weeks sounds like an eternity at the beginning and here I am with 17 days to go. Please feel free to email me at amynoellemaia@gmail.com with any other questions you may have. Best of luck.

  3. Thank you so much both CHPCadetWife and CHP Cadet Fiance! My husband and I have never been apart for more than a night, so I am mostly worried about the nights when the house is super quiet and every tiny strange noise makes me stop and hold my breath. Lol. I am looking forward to getting into a routine. And am encouraged by the fact that you both feel that it goes by fast! CHP Cadet Fiance, what area in California do you live? Has your fiance been visiting every weekend? We live in so cal and have already started buying flights so that he can come home weekends. My husband said he's talked to people who have been through the academy and have told him that he's not going to want to EVER stay at the academy on the weekends. I am hoping he might meet someone who lives out our way and can carpool when we aren't able to get a flight. Thank you both again for your emails, I will definitely be in touch! Here is mine :) ciarasocal@gmail.com
