We're down to single digits in weeks left at the Academy. You can feel the light at the end of the tunnel. B. was tased on Wednesday. He said it was the most painful thing he has ever felt. He suggests that anyone about to be tased should comply with the officer who has the taser. There are still lots of scenarios and testing to be done in the next nine weeks. But the thought we are that much closer feels good.
Pick up day for CTC 1-14 is tomorrow morning. Best of luck to the new cadets. It's a lot to take in on the first day for the cadets and families. I was just as nervous that morning. It's the uncertainty that makes you feel uneasy. I didn't get a chance to talk to B. on the first night, just a late night text. Be supportive of your cadet. Be there to listen. They will be so much going on in their Academy life, little things at home can wait.
Thank you so much for doin this blog! I've been following your blog for a while now and I'm considering starting my own... my Fiancé is in CTC 1-14. I was able to talk to him for a second last night, he said someone dropped out the first day. He also sounds like he is doubting himself because a lot of Cadets have a Masters/Bachelors degree or are in the Marines. Any advice on what to say?
ReplyDeleteI just found this blog. How wonderful to follow along. By boyfriend is in CTC 1-14. It would be nice to get to know some of the other wives, fiancée' and girlfriends of the cadets in CTC 1-14
DeleteHi Sabrina,
DeleteYou should see if there has been a Facebook Group created for CTC I-14. That is how I was able to find many of the wives, fiances, and girlfriends.
Hi CHP Cadet Fiance: Congratulations to your fiance on making it to CTC I-14. It is quite an acccomplishment to make it to the Academy. There are Cadets from lots of backgrounds, he should not be discouraged. The CHP saw something in him. The first four weeks are the toughest. They will try and break him down. Just be there to listen. Be interested in what he's going through. Spend time together quizzing him on Vehicle Codes. Right around four weeks, you will get a call saying, "What am I doing here?" Tell him he deserves to be and you'll see him on Friday. Day 1 felt like yesterday and here I am 18.5 weeks in. Best of luck to you both.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it sounds like he is doing better now just super tired. For me, Sunday was the toughest day so far. Watching him drive away was the worst.. :-( BUT, I am glad I got to see him.
DeleteThank you for writing this blog. My husband just started in Monday CTC I-14. It is so helpful to have a glimpse into what is happening. I was there on the Sunday you are referring to above. I just talked to my hubby for the first time tonight for a whole 5 min! He said it is really reallllly tough. It's agonizing to think about what they are going through. Unfortunately, we live in southern Cali so there are no quick visits on weekends or liberty nights. He's thinking about flying home for the weekend. 3 days down!
ReplyDeleteCHP Cadet Fiancé: my hubby doesn't have a degree either.
Thanks, definitely helps knowing he is not alone. My parents have been a great support system for him as well. They had a good point, its not a competition with other Cadets, its a pass or fail type of thing. They don't have to be the best at everything, just be able to do it. Remember The little trian that could... :-)
DeleteYes! Great point! That does make me feel better. And also keep in mind much of the training is based on real life experiences and physical coordination. Not just book smarts.
DeleteHey, it's Wednesday! Maybe our guys will give us a call tonight???
CHP Cadet Wife: Hello there, I stumbled upon your blog while I was trying to find out more about the party of the academy and what is the dress code? Whether formal or casual. Anyways, my boyfriend is currently in the academy as well as many of the people who commented this page. He is in the same class as your husband and while I don't have many of the same struggles since we don't have children there are some similar other struggles we do have.
ReplyDeleteIt's comforting to read about the life of a wife of a cadet dealing with the same issues that I have been for the past 18 weeks. It is very exciting about them graduating in just 8 short weeks! Best Wishes to you and your husband!
Hi Cadet Wife: I hope your husband survived week one. It's a lot to take in the first couple weeks. You as a wife have tons of questions too. Even with 18 weeks in, I'm always asking questions. The CHP Recruiting Facebook page has been really good about posting pictures, as well as the CHP.ca gov page. Best of luck and stay strong. The days are long, but the weeks are short.
ReplyDeleteHi Meghan: I can't believe there are only eight weeks left. I've been jumping the gun and counting the weeks left at the beginning of the week. I have a countdown calendar app on my phone. There are 61 days until graduation.
Regarding the graduation party, I believe it will be on Wednesday night and from what I've seen pictures of it looks like it might be semi-formal. Guys in suit/tie and girls in dresses. Hope to meet you there. Hang tough, we're almost there.
CHP Cadet Wife: I know! We are getting closer and closer to the end. I told my boyfriend about your blog and he was curious to find out whose wife you are (as well as I am!)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I looked at the pictures from another blogger that you follow who has already gone to it does look semi-formal.
See you at the cadet party!!
Hi Meghan: I probably won't be revealing my Cadet's identity on this blog until we get to graduation, but feel free to email me at amynoellemaia@gmail.com. I have no idea what to wear for the party or graduation.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog, its s good read. My husband just finished psych test and got told he'd be heading up in October. I'm super excited for him. It's nice read about what to expect week to week. Unfortunately we life in southern California so not to many weekends will be spent together as a family. Thank you for ur blog.
ReplyDeleteHi Tifanie,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you and your husband. Please don't hesitate to send any questions my way.
